I dropped past Dunnottar Castle the other day to see if there was still some snow on the ground. Sadly it had all gone but I wanted to scope out some new angles on this familiar ruin, to try and find a new way of looking at a building I’ve been looking at all my life.

Starting at the industry standard viewpoint at the head of the steps, I quickly realised that wasn’t going to work for me and went for a lower angle so that the castle was contrasted against the skyline. It then made perfect sense to go for a silhouette and let the gentle sunset kiss the haggard outline of the covenanter’s castle. Perfect.
